How do I control the fluid temperature in a
closed-loop water recycling system?

It depends upon whether you require heating or cooling. Typically, heating is required in applications where the process fluid temperature required is substantially higher than the ambient temperature. These are applications where the heat loss from the process fluid into the local environment (i.e. the air) is more than the heat input from work being imparted on the process fluid from circulation pumps and machining operations. Cooling is typically required for applications where the process fluid temperature required must be maintained at ambient temperature or lower.

For heating, we manufacture the AquaCycler™ systems with their own process water storage tank. An immersion type heater is installed in the storage tank. The heat input from the immersion heater is controlled with a solid state relay, PID controller and thermocouple to monitor the process fluid temperature and control the proper addition of heat electronically.

For cooling, the AquaCycler™ systems have brazed plate heat exchangers installed in the process piping. The plates of the heat exchanger isolate the process fluid from a coolant fluid. The flow rates of both fluids are controlled by pumps and valves through a properly sized heat exchanger. A coolant fluid must be supplied to remove heat from the process fluid. In some cases, we supply a coolant cooler/chiller unit, which can control the temperature of the coolant and ultimately results in control of the temperature of the process fluid to within ±1°C.
